LessWaste.apk winner of the N2L fellowship by Catalyst Miami, is a project developed by NEWMENstudio that raises awareness about sustainable consumption habits in the city of Miami through the use of Augmented Reality and new technologies
According to the United Nations organization, unsustainable patterns of consumption and production are root cause of planetary triple crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
In the city of Miami with an estimated 2023 population of 2,763,366, each person generates 1 ton of garbage a year, and water and waste management generate about 4% of emissions according to the Climate Action Strategy of the Miami-Dade County.
The goal is to raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goal #12 which ensures sustainable consumption and production patterns, which is key to sustaining the livelihoods of current and future generations while making available resources to our communities through the use of new technologies.
Every person generates 1 ton of waste yearly in Miami-Dade County.
